S.O.S. (Snow O-pon Snow)

This is my second time writing this same post since when I tried to post it a little bit ago it deleted itself. As a result I have lost all hope in humanity and life. It’s been a good chunk of time since my last blog, mainly because I’ve been working on two different blogs that won’t be posted for a few weeks. Also, I’ve been trying to enjoy procrastination and laziness within my home.

So far my break has been an awesome blessing, filled with snow, shoveling snow, looking at snow, and more snow. But really it’s been a very relaxing break, filled with reading a lot of books I could never find time for during the semester, and sleeping-in till noon. Nerf wars with my nephew and brother-in-law, Christmas with both sides of the family, and television have all been just a taste of my break away from homework. Of course I’ll need to jump back onto my Latin studies before I return for my second semester to make sure I’m still on beat.

Probably the coolest thing to happen over my break was a marriage. Andrew Myers, a fellow Logansport Berry, joined in a covenantal bond before God in his marriage to Allison Yocum on January 4th, 2014. The first of any of my friends to do so, and I was extremely honored to be invited by the couple. They took a step of great love and spirituality that I hope will cause for a deepening in faith in their coming decades together! I just want to wish a big CONGRADULATIONS (see what I did there) to them on this beautiful event!

I’ll be trying to have more than three blogs a week till school starts on January 18th to make up for my recent inactiveness. Happy winter storms readers!

WAF

There was an email war?

So, apparently there was an email war during break.

I know I should be informed about this, since it was sent to everyone with a Wabash e-mail, but I didn’t see this. I check my emails regularly, but this email war just didn’t catch my eye (and that’s probably not exclusive to me; it didn’t seem incredibly long, like the last email war). So I got to thinking; what’s so different about this one that no one really wanted to get involved?

Well, it’s break; no one really cares.

Before this comes off as overly cynical, allow me to explain; as I have said before, we go on break so we can spend some time relaxing and recuperating from the previous semester. As such, we begin to detach ourselves from the going ons of Wabash. I assume most of us would rather be spending time with friends and family rather than argue over things. This is supposed to be a happy time of year, not a time of bickering and arguing (refrain from making comments about the government). Now, the last email war was at a time where everyone was on campus, and being so close to Monon Week it had the best chance of getting noticed. This one didn’t have such luck, and I’m happy for that.

Also, while I check my emails regularly, I’m certain that there are those Wabash men who don’t possess such diligence, especially during breaks. This does have to do with the above, as we are more interested in family than school, and thus would be a bit distracted and too lazy to check our emails. This is all in theory, of course, as I am only one person and therefore not a good representation of the actions and beliefs of the campus as a whole (again, refrain from making comments about government, or how Wabash is run).

Perhaps there is a way that we can connect better with one another over breaks. I don’t know what it is, but I’m sure someone will find it eventually.

The Hobbit

I have been reading The Hobbit since I bought it last Sunday. If you have seen any of The Lord of The Rings movies, the books are a hundred times better. J.R.R. Tolkien grabs your imagination and takes you along for Bilbo Baggins’ adventure. I don’t think I have been as part of a book as I have with this one. It is very well written and though lenghty, you will forgive yourself because you will not be able to put it down. Go read it, you will not regret it.

Get a Job, Stay in contact, And Make Some Cash

Not sure how your parents deal with spending money or cash while you are in high school, but like it changed for me it might for you as well. (By the way, go listen to some Ray Charles, Lonely Avenue is a great pick.) In high school, since I was living at home, I wouldn’t say I was spoiled but I could just ask if I wanted something and I’d get it, not expensive stuff. Video games inlcuding my PS3 and my iPad I bought with internship money, yeah I know wish I hadn’t.

Now that I am in college, there is no “Can we go to Chili’s?” Well, there is but you are gonna have to pay. No longer are your parents there to pick up the tab so it is most likely that you won’t be going out as much or at all. If you want to go out at least once or twice a month with your buddies while in school, the time to start saving up is now and start looking for cheap deals for food. For example, if you like wings don’t go to Buffalo Wild Wings go to Applebee’s after 10 any day of the week for half price appetizers (Click it come on, look at the menu). For less than 10 bucks with a drink too and in my opinion they are better than Buffalo Wild Wings.

Even McDonalds will start running your bank account dry going at least every friday like my buddies and I do. All I am saying is manage your money and make sure you have a job for when you are on break and at home. Believe me you are gooing to want to have extra cash in your pocket. When you are not on break it is important that you stay in contact with your supervisor or with whom ever you are working with. 200 bucks or 60 bucks will take you a long way with buying your self some food. Though I have been home for about 2 weeks now and already have a job with my brother at his Ford Diesel shop I still haven’t gone so make sure you go to work as well.

Most importantly, try to save as much money as you can when wanting to buy junk you don’t need like a video game or unnecessary luxuries. You are going to be or are a college student and still have the rest of your life to throw money away.

Thanks for reading yall.
