First Week of the New Semester

I’ve been rather quiet for the last few weeks, I’ve noticed. There’s a reason for this: I wanted to get through my first week back at school before writing about it (also because I’m ahead of my ESH schedule and don’t want to outstrip myself).

And first impressions are looking pretty good.

I still have Latin and History, and I enjoyed those two classes last semester. I’m a bit rusty in my Latin, and I need to remember just where we left off in History, but I am sure that I’ll be back in the swing of things in a few days. Besides, this is Wabash; I’m not going to give up just because I don’t understand something immediately. That’d be something DePauw students would do, and Wabash is better than DePauw.

School favoritism aside, there are other things I am involved in this semester. As always, I will be attending and reporting on Dork Club meetings (if you missed one of my blogs over break, I got some fancy new toys for the Wabash Space Marines). Also, I have enrolled in two new courses: Enduring Questions and Introduction to American Politics.

Enduring Questions (or EQ) is a discussion and writing based class where you talk about what it means to be a person and how the mind works (like a philosophy class, but not really). I love writing, and I love talking about how people think (I even psychoanalyse myself sometimes if I’m really bored), so I will enjoy that class. We all need an experience where we analyse just who we are and what our purpose in life is (spoiler: Tiger Food), and I think this will be a good experience for me.

The other class is Intro to American Politics. I can’t say a lot about this class yet, since we haven’t really done a lot, but I will say it has potential. I tend to be on the “dumb American” side of the political information spectrum, so maybe this class will give me a better perspective to how our country works and what we can do to make it better.

So, as I said in a previous blog post, I think this year is going to be good; I have a few new courses to get excited about, a few groups that I will continue to support, and other events around campus to look forward to (Like the play- I didn’t get a part, but I’ll still go). And who knows? Maybe something even better will come up and I’ll have an even better time then I imagined I would.

Yeah, this year will be good.

Doing Homework

Nothing feels better than when the homework you are doing for one class helps you on another. Even more so when they are two different subjects like Economic Public Policy and a class about enduring questions. It is almost feels like I was the person who put a knife to a loaf of bread.

Well this week is pretty much over and it could not have been better. All my classes are great and I have gotten into a great routine of gym at 8:30 and then shower and class at 10:00 Monday, Wednesday, and Friday. As for Tuesday and Thursday I get to wake up at 9:15 for 9:45 class and play racquetball or soccer at 8:00.

Want to wish a Good Luck to all those participating in the Annual Celebration of Undergraduate Student Research. Hoping to pope around a bunch of those tomorrow afternoon.

New Semester

Yesterday was my first day of class this semester. First class starts at 10 which is great because I can wake up at 8:30, go to the gym, shower and feel energized for my first class. Usually if your first class is at 10 you might sleep in, but at least for now I am taking advantage and on a nice sleeping pattern.

I thought last semester I had small classes but my Spanish class this semester has 4 other people. Now that is small. It is great though because no way am I going to miss or even try to miss that class. Not that I have ever even been late to a scheduled class. Also there is more one on one with that professor. My second class is Enduring Questions which has the average for a Wabash class size 15 or so. I was currently doing homework for that class and it is never dull to read about Wabash history. After lunch I have Music Theory which is basic reading and notation, stuff that as a music major I should already know but I have never had formal classes or lessons on. Tuesdays and Thursdays I have Public Policy which is another course that is for a minor or major in econ. Very excited for that class even with all the NPR hour long podcast we have to listen to and load of reading.

I was say “Overall I am happy with this semester” but that would mean there is something I am not happy about, which is not true. All my classes are going to be tough and I am proud that they are.

First Day of Classes

Today was the first day back to classes here at Wabash. I mean where else would we be at? And I can honestly my EQ (Enduring Questions) class has me psyched for the rest of the semester! I can honestly say that I have many more, many more books than last semester but they are all books I’ve wanted to read and never gotten around to. Another semester of Beginning Latin looks to be fun, as well as my second class with Prof. Salisbury. Tomorrow I get my first taste of Roman Art and Archaeology, and I cannot wait for it to come!

WAF

Before Classes Start

So the past week I’ve been here at Wabash due to indoor track practices. I’ve gotten to be reunited with friends, see our beautiful campus in the fresh snow again, and move my furniture in my own room here at FIJI! It’s great to be back with my teammates and seeing guys in the house again! It is also weird being here at Wabash when a lot of people (and more importantly Sandy our cook) are not here.  It’s only been like three weeks after all. Now all that is left before school starts is to be begin buying textbooks and assorted other small fortunes worth of paper so that I may prosper in the classroom.
